Non-Fiction Book Video Trailer: "Seduced Into Darkness" by author Carrie Ishee

After many months of work and waiting for the right time, we just released Carrie Ishee's Video Book Trailer for "Seduced Into Darkness: Transcending my Psychiatrist's Sexual Abuse."

The trailer includes clips of my interview with her during the summer of 2019 in Santa Fe, and images of her as the young woman who was abused by her own therapist. The book offers hope and a path forward for survivors as well as education for mental health professionals. Carrie will hold a virtual event on Thursday, November 19 at 7 pm Mountain time. Click to register for this event.

Seduced Into Darkness: Transcending My Psychiatrist’s Sexual Abuse is a vivid and captivating story of hope for survivors of abuse as well as a case study in a skilled manipulator’s tragic exploitation of his professional power.

This poignant memoir chronicles the traumatic psychological abduction and sexual exploitation of depressed college student Carrie Tansey at the hands of her psychiatrist, Dr. Anthony Romano―thirty-one years her senior. For three years, their secret “affair” was carefully calculated and controlled by Romano, as Carrie’s mental and emotional health continued to deteriorate, bringing her closer and closer to the edge.

Their dual-relationship―clinical and clandestine―finally came to light when Carrie’s suicide attempts landed her in a world-renowned psychiatric hospital. Gradually, she began to reclaim her power, reported Romano to the state licensing board, successfully sued him for malpractice, and testified before the state legislature to help pass a law aimed at curbing such abuses.

As Carrie tells her tale, it is a journey paralleling that of the mythical archetype Persephone, the naive innocent who was abducted into darkness, reemerged and regenerated herself, then fearlessly returned to the prison she had fled, this time to help free others. Today, Carrie Ishee is a widely respected art therapist and life coach as well as a teacher specializing in the issues of ethics and boundaries for mental health professionals.

Mari Angulo has been studying for a master’s degree in Madrid, Spain, since September 2019 and has remained there throughout the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown. Mari spoke with Richard Eeds on Talk KTRC just over a week ago about her experience that started with a visit to South Korea lasting only three days due to the outbreak in February. The interview took place just as the Spanish government began easing the country’s strict confinement regulations. Mari shared her life during Madrid’s lockdown as well as what she’s doing remotely with the New Mexico Book Association and other clients as they pivot into new directions.

Magela Herrera - Artist Website

8/30/2019

We recently worked with a very talented client, Magela Herrera. Magela is a flutist, singer, and songwriter from Cuba. I met Magela through my work and friendship with the Entreflamenco dance company that she performs with here in Santa Fe. Magela approached us wanting to redesign her website and create a new, updated logo for herself. She had been managing her own website but as she started producing more music and performing more often, she realized that she needed a little help. Her goal for the website was to showcase her newly released album, and to promote her upcoming shows and music. With these things in mind, we designed a website that plays with the contrast between bright, rich colors and dark backgrounds. This color-blocked design makes elements like photos and text stand out, while keeping a playful feeling to the website. We also focused on incorporating music players such as Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud on the site so that visitors could listen to her music directly from her home page. We felt that other small elements like an updated list of her upcoming events and performances, and a section that highlights all her recent press and media exposure would help promote her music as well.
Along with the website, Magela wanted a logo that incorporated her signature and musical elements, like her flute. I brought in the musical elements by replacing the ‘G’ in her name with a treble clef and underlined her name with an abstract flute. I made sure that the logo incorporated a color palette that Magela had selected to represent her vibrancy and style. I created several versions to make sure that the logo would flow and be seen on various backgrounds, whether dark, busy, or light.

I had a lot of fun working on this project! Thank you, Magela, for trusting me in this process!

Marketing a Business and a Book: Vista Living Care

Our client Vista Living Care is a senior living community that consists of three homes in New Mexico, two in Santa Fe and one in Las Cruces. Vista Living Care (VLC) is one of the only facilities that specializes in homes that cater to people who have dementia and Alzheimer’s.

We do a wide range of marketing and promotional work with VLC. Currently we are running and maintaining their social media accounts, which include Facebook, Twitter, and most recently an Instagram account. We post on social media 2-3 times a week with content that includes photos of their elders doing fun activities like arts and crafts or dancing. Along with this, we designed and created their website which we update regularly and where we post bi-weekly blogs. To make sure our content is new and updated, we visit the two homes in Santa Fe often and send a photographer to the Las Cruces location to take professional photos of the facilities, staff, and of the elders in their home environment. Every couple of months we send out a newsletter that includes upcoming events, recent blog posts, photos, and much more. Along with this, we help them design a range of marketing materials like flyers or brochures.

We also offer book marketing services to Vista Living Care because they have recently released a book called Mindful Dementia Care. We have been promoting their new book with a blog tour which has help grow exposure and generate many reviews for the book. We really enjoy having them as a client and we have a lot of fun working with them.

New Mexico Book Association - Events & Newsletter

8/5/2019

We have a passion for working with non-profit organizations and helping them flourish. One of the non-profits that I have been working with since 2017 is the New Mexico Book Association (NMBA). NMBA aims to bring together enthusiastic people who enjoy writing or producing books. The NMBA was founded in 1994 as a 501(c)(6) organization and soon became a pioneer among statewide book publishing groups.

We have do a wide range of work with the NMBA, ranging from managing their finances and membership, to planning and organizing events and workshops. We manage their website, where we make sure there is always useful and current information for their members. Along with this, each month we invite the members to send us news and information on their upcoming events that we compile into a newsletter and send out to all members.

The newsletters are a great way to keep members engaged and update them on the information from the most recent networking lunch meeting.

This year we helped plan the 25th Anniversary Gala hosted at the Wonder Institute, which brought together members who have been in the association from the start with even the newest members. It can sometimes be a challenge to coordinate all the moving parts that go into an event, but it is always rewarding to see it all come together. 60 members gathered and enjoyed an evening that honored winners of the Southwest Book Design Awards.

Design & Marketing Arts: EntreFlamenco

6/15/2019

EntreFlamenco is a Flamenco dance company that officially claimed Santa Fe as their home a couple years ago with their new space near the plaza (El Flamenco), but they've been performing seasonally in Santa Fe since 2011. I've been happy to support them from day one. My friends and world class flamenco dancers Antonio Granjero and Stephanie Ramirez direct the company and present shows year-round. They both performed with Maria Benitez when she was touring the world and maintaining a summer season at The Lodge. For years, Artotems Co. (form er company)was happy to support them with video, photography and donations, but recently, I joined the board board of directors for their non-profit 'Spanish Danzart Society', deepening our support.

I collaborated with EntreFlamenco to help them design a program book for their 2019-2020 season. We kept the flow of the pages very similar to their programs from previous seasons and focused on making sure the layout of each page was aesthetically pleasing, while keeping all important information clear and readable. We were inspired by a photo of Stephanie, where she is striking a strong pose in a red dress. We used this photo as the cover and made the theme of the entire program to match. We played with design elements like black and white photos with color overlays so that text could be read more easily on top.

We are getting ready to set up e-blast emails and a periodic newsletter to be sent out to better reach their constituency. In the newsletters we might include recent performance photos, and mention their upcoming guest performers. EntreFlamenco also hosts workshops and gives free dance classes for local youth, so the eblasts could be a useful tool to get that information out to more people.

Looking forward to many more years of supporting great artists through creative work with EntreFlamenco.

Working for Nonprofit Events: Music for Everyone

3/13/2019

Our clients at the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association (SFYSA) had their big event of the year this month. SFYSA’s 25th Anniversary Celebration benefit concert, with the theme Silverscreen: Music for Everyone, was a smashing success. Not only did SFYSA’s event fill the Lensic for a night of family fun with movie score classics performed by the Santa Fe Youth Symphony and additional performances by renowned local artists Nacha Mendez and Jono Manson, but it also raised awareness of and $25K for the organization.
We supported the event this year in a variety of ways. We contributed to the design, look, and feel of the promotional materials, postcards, and invitations. Using those design elements, we produced the promotional video that advertised the event on social media and on KOB’s “Good Day New Mexico” morning show. We sent out various e-blasts to get concert-goers excited about the event, and booked the publicity for the concert on radio, TV, and popular event sites.

The promotional video was used to advertise the event through Facebook and Instagram and as the introductory piece to the SFYSA’s “Good Day New Mexico” TV interview.
Our services also included managing the production of the concert program and making sure the multimedia images and videos to be projected during the event were completed and ready for showtime.

We especially enjoyed helping to put together these 25th Anniversary videos that played throughout the concert and will also be used to promote each of the youth symphony’s programs. We were intimately involved with the process, from conducting interviews to adding the finishing touches while working with a videographer-editor to deliver the final product.

During the concert, we captured images of the student musicians and special guests who were performing. It was truly an inspiring night.

A reception was held at Manitou Galleries where they conducted a Painted Violin Auction.

Of course, we couldn't help but take our favorite one home!

We were staying at Sylvia's Irish Inn in Urbana, IL when we hit it off with the owners and were hired to develop their new website.

The Inn is beautiful and historic just a couple of miles from the University of Illinois, offering comfortable accommodations and an even better breakfast to its guests daily.

We couldn't resist the opportunity and look forward to sharing the beauty and comfort of the Victorian inn online. We are working to reveal the new site in July 2017.
