Author Video Book Trailer - "How My Brain Works" by Barbara Koltuska-Haskin

by Kristen Romero

We recently had the pleasure of working with Dr. Barbara Koltuska-Haskin, a neuropsychologist in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Barbara just wrote and released her first book, How My Brain Works: A Guide to Understanding in Better and Keeping it Healthy. Her intentions for this book were to share the knowledge and expertise that she had gained from over 30 years of clinical and research based experience in the field. Barbara wanted to craft it in a way that would be easy to understand for the average reader, and hopefully inspire them to think more about taking steps to enhance and protect their brain health.
We suggested creating a book trailer so that Barbara could share an inside look at her book, in her own words that could be easily shared with potential readers. We met with Barbara at her office in Albuquerque and filmed an interview with her. From this interview we were able to edit and compose her book trailer. A few weeks later, she had an online author event hosted by her publisher where we were able to debut and share her trailer with everyone for the first time.

Barbara was great to work with throughout the entire process, and we had a ton of fun letting our creativity flow with this trailer.

The wide range of useful information contained in How My Brain Works can help the reader in many ways: basic understanding of this unique organ, advice for anyone concerned about the possibility of a cognitive problem, and the wisdom of the author’s experience in helping her many patients and others to keep their brains healthy and working at their highest level. Students with learning problems, young people considering varied career paths, victims of brain injuries or mental disorders, the middle-aged and elderly at risk of dementia—all can gain from the knowledge Dr. Barbara Koltuska-Haskin has gained in her many years as a practicing neuropsychologist. In easy-to-understand language, she explains the countless ways the evaluation process she uses can help people in a wide variety of situations, and how the results can be used for maximum benefit.
Plus, building on this information, Dr. Koltuska-Haskin offers a wealth of advice and tips on how to build and maintain optimum brain health. Reaching widely into the physical, psychological, nutritional, and spiritual worlds, she pulls together new research as well as age-old treasured learning to create an everyday guide to harnessing our most powerful mental tools in shaping the healthful and successful lives we all seek.

We had the pleasure of working with the wonderful Linda Durham. Linda's professional and personal life centers on art, artists, global travel, and humanitarian causes. She has just written and published a memoir, Still Moving, telling the adventure filled life she has lived and the lessons that she has learned along the way. She wanted us to help her create a website that was classic, clean, and easy to navigate. We developed a color palette that matched the look and feel of her book, and started working on a design that would highlight all her photos, accomplishments, and of course Still Moving.

Judy Vaughan - Author Book Launch & Website

By Kristen Romero

We had great time working with author Judith Vaughan promoting her new memoir, Strawberry Roan: Growing up in the Shadow of Hermit Peak. After releasing her book, Judy participated in an online book tour with us, hosted a virtual book launch, and had us create a fresh website and new business cards.

Website

First we created a color palette to match the look and feel of Strawberry Roan to start developing a brand for her.

Judy helped us brainstorm a layout for the website, and she let us know that she really liked a website from another author, Fiona Maria Simon. With this guidance, and many photos from Judy, we were able to get started on her website.
Picture
On the home page of her site, we paid homage a site near and dear to Judy's childhood and her book, the Hermit Peak in Gallinas Canyon, found in Northern New Mexico. We wanted an image that could complement the content of her memoir and the Hermit Peak was a no-brainer. Under that we featured information about Judy, along with her headshot.

Marketing a Business and a Book: Vista Living Care

8/8/2019

Our client Vista Living Care is a senior living community that consists of three homes in New Mexico, two in Santa Fe and one in Las Cruces. Vista Living Care (VLC) is one of the only facilities that specializes in homes that cater to people who have dementia and Alzheimer’s.

We do a wide range of marketing and promotional work with VLC. Currently we are running and maintaining their social media accounts, which include Facebook, Twitter, and most recently an Instagram account. We post on social media 2-3 times a week with content that includes photos of their elders doing fun activities like arts and crafts or dancing. Along with this, we designed and created their website which we update regularly and where we post bi-weekly blogs. To make sure our content is new and updated, we visit the two homes in Santa Fe often and send a photographer to the Las Cruces location to take professional photos of the facilities, staff, and of the elders in their home environment. Every couple of months we send out a newsletter that includes upcoming events, recent blog posts, photos, and much more. Along with this, we help them design a range of marketing materials like flyers or brochures.

We also offer book marketing services to Vista Living Care because they have recently released a book called Mindful Dementia Care. We have been promoting their new book with a blog tour which has help grow exposure and generate many reviews for the book. We really enjoy having them as a client and we have a lot of fun working with them.

New Mexico Book Association - Events & Newsletter

8/5/2019

We have a passion for working with non-profit organizations and helping them flourish. One of the non-profits that I have been working with since 2017 is the New Mexico Book Association (NMBA). NMBA aims to bring together enthusiastic people who enjoy writing or producing books. The NMBA was founded in 1994 as a 501(c)(6) organization and soon became a pioneer among statewide book publishing groups.

We have do a wide range of work with the NMBA, ranging from managing their finances and membership, to planning and organizing events and workshops. We manage their website, where we make sure there is always useful and current information for their members. Along with this, each month we invite the members to send us news and information on their upcoming events that we compile into a newsletter and send out to all members.

The newsletters are a great way to keep members engaged and update them on the information from the most recent networking lunch meeting.

This year we helped plan the 25th Anniversary Gala hosted at the Wonder Institute, which brought together members who have been in the association from the start with even the newest members. It can sometimes be a challenge to coordinate all the moving parts that go into an event, but it is always rewarding to see it all come together. 60 members gathered and enjoyed an evening that honored winners of the Southwest Book Design Awards.
